Attending the Funeral Service of my Friend’s Mother brought the reality of death to a new level. One could not help but, think about the statement made by the Apostle Paul that says, “To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord”. 2nd Corinthians 5:8.
(The thought that the real you/the real me left the body at the time of death can only be described in Biblical terms. The wise man Solomon told us, in Ecclesiastes 12:7 “Then shall the dust (flesh) return to the earth as it was: and the Spirit shall return unto God who gave it”. As I listened to the different tributes given on behalf of the deceased sister. There was no doubt in my mind that the Spirit of this sister is resting comfortably with her God.
Let me take this opportunity in asking everyone who will read this blog to pause for a moment and reflect on those two scriptures. For me, this was a sobering moment; death can be conquered when it is viewed in the words of our Lord Jesus according to Matthew 10:28 “And fear not them which kill the body but are not able to kill the soul: (spirit) but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell. “
Therefore, it’s made clear to us that death does not have the final word but, Jesus does. In closing the word tells us that we are more than conquers through him that love us!
