It is strange to think that Mary lived in Nazareth and at more than eight months pregnant the prophecy is on books that she should give birth over seventy miles away. According to Micah 5:2 “but thou Bethlehem Ephrata, though thou be little among the thousands of Judea, yet out of thee shall come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel: whose going forth have been from of old, from everlasting”.
Hundreds of years before Mary became pregnant Micah prophesied that the child was going to be born in Bethlehem but, no time is ever too late for God to work out his purpose. Surprising to everyone in Luke 2:1-7 we read “And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus, that all the world should be taxed.
And this taxing was first made when Cyrenius was governor of Syria.
And all went to be taxed, everyone in his own city.
And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judea, and to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David:
To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child.
And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered.
And she brought forth her first born son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger: because there was no room for them in the Inn”
(We’ve just witnessed the marvelous work of God in which he brought fulfilment to prophecy. The decree that Caesar issued, forced Mary to go to Bethlehem in person though almost nine months pregnant. We can only imagine the difficulty that both Mary and Joseph experienced along those dirt tracks but, whatever God says it must come to pass. There is a prophecy about you somewhere, whether individually or collectively that will also come to pass)
Amen, Amen, Amen.
