(1) Church unity is important for the Spirit of God to flow.
We see the example of this in Acts 2:1-4
That says “and when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.
And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.
And there appeared unto them cloven tongue like as a fire, and it sat upon each of them.
And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost and began to speak with other tongues as the Spirit gives them utterance”.
(So, this is telling us, that unity of Spirit is vital in the operation of the church.
We’re also told here that it was not until when the hundred and twenty people in the upper room were on one accord that the Holy Ghost fell.
(2) The unity in the church also creates social bonding. In Acts 4:34-35, we’re told “neither was there any among them that lack: for as many as were possessors of land or houses sold them,
and brought the price of the things that were sold and laid them down at the Apostle’s feet: and distribution was made unto every man according as he had need.”
(Let us use our imagination, here is the beginning of the early church three thousand people got saved in the first service and the Lord kept adding daily such as to be saved.
How were all the needs of these people met? They were met by a demonstration of real church unity. This unity manifests itself by those who were in possession of properties and sold them so that the proceeds was distributed amongst everyone. Therefore, there was no lack in the early church.
Let us keep praying that we will see this level of unity in the church today.)
