This question is important considering what God said in Genesis 1:26-27 “ And God said, let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.”
So, God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them”.
(In light of this two verses of scripture God has placed a very high value upon humanity, especially when we think that we are created in his image. God is consistent in recognizing us as valuable. We read In Matthew 10: 29-31” Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? And one of them shall not fall on the ground without your father. But the very hairs of your head are all numbered.
Fear ye not therefore, ye are of more value than many sparrows “.
Again, God emphasize how valuable we are in his sight, another way in which God demonstrates our value is when he declared that we are the apple of his eye. Three places in the scriptures God reveal his truth. In Psalm 17:8 the Psalmist said “Keep me as the apple of the eye, hide me under the shadow of thy wings “. Again, in Deuteronomy 32:9-10 “For the Lord’s portion is his people; Jacob is the lot of his inheritance. He found him in a desert land and in the waste howling wilderness; he led him about, he instructed him, he kept him as the apple of his eye”.
We also read in Zachariah 2:8 “For thus saith the Lord of host; after the Glory hath he sent me unto the nations which spoil you: for he that toucheth you, toucheth the apple of his eye “.
In all of these scriptures God has demonstrated, the value he places on us. However, we have devalued ourselves, because of sin. One of the passages that speaks to this devaluation is Romans 1:18-32. Not only the behavior in this passage but the general conduct of humanity, which is manifested in the way we dress, the body piercings, drug abuse, uses of vulgar language and the list goes on.
It is interesting to think that in-spite of all of this Romans 5:8 tells us “But God commendeth his love towards us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”
God is determined to prove how valuable we are in 1st Peter 1:18-19 we are told “Forasmuch as he know that he were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vein conversation received by tradition from your fathers; But, with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:
So even in our devalued state God’s love for us remains the same and he uses the blood of Jesus to restore us to our original value. Thank God for the blood of Jesus.
