In Luke chapter 2 we read of a servant who demonstrated outstanding dedication and service to God. Luke 2:36-38 “And there was one Anna, a prophetess, the daughter of Penuel, of the tried Aser: she was of great age and had lived with her husband (7) seven years from her virginity, and she was a was a widow of about four (4) score and (4) four years, which departed not from the temple, but, served God with fasting and prayers night and day.
And she coming in that instant gave thanks likewise unto the Lord, and spake of him to all them that looked for redemption in Jerusalem”.
(This is a remarkable instance in which Jesus as a babe was brought to the temple for dedication and while being dedicated, this servant of God Anna came in the temple. According to the passage we learnt three things about her.
1: She was a prophetess, being a prophetess indicates that she repeatedly spoke on behalf of God by revelation through the spirit.
2: we also learned that she lost her husband after (7) seven years of marriage. This could’ve caused a decline in her spiritual life but, instead it strengthened her faith which brings us to the third 3rd point.
3: We also read from the passage that she was a widow for eighty-four (84) years. It is clear as we examine this story that she was a servant of God well stricken in age, and yet, even at this point God was still using her in a remarkable way. She coming into the temple at the moment of dedication confirmed that this is the Messiah, the son of God. Her life of fasting and prayer along with her not departing from the temple, demonstrated her true desire to serve God. Anna did not let age be a deterrent instead she used age as an opportunity. Let’s continue to pray that God will turn our weakness into strength for his service. What a life of commitment? Hallelujah, praise the Lord.)
