Every so often all over the world, citizens are given the choice to choose their leaders. While it is their right to do so, from a Christian standpoint we need to ask ourselves if the decision they made is independent of God? Here in the United States of America the citizens are asked to choose the (47th) President of the country. I will take this time out to encourage every citizen to exercise their democratic rights and vote.
While some might not be aware as they go to the polls, we read in Daniel 4: 17b “To the intent that the living may know that the most high ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will,”. His purpose in his decision may not be made known to us right now, but he has said in Romans 9: 17 ” For the scripture saith unto Pharaoh even for this same purpose I have raised thee up, that I might show my power in thee, and that my name might be declared throughout all the earth”.
(This is telling us that our God is a sovereign God, one who knows the ending from the beginning. If we take a look on Daniel 2 it tells us that Nebuchadnezzar had a dream of which he could not interpret then he called for Daniel to do the interpretation, in explaining the dream to Daniel verse 21 tells us something about who God is ” And he changeth the time and the seasons: he remove kings, and set up Kings: he giveth wisdom unto the wise, and knowledge to them that know understanding”.
Here is a further indication that it is God who determines the outcome of any election. Nebuchadnezzar is regarded the enemy of God’s people yet three times in Jeremiah God called him his servant; Jeremiah 25:9, Jeremiah 27:6, & Jeremiah 43:10.
Every leader of government anywhere is under the watchful eyes of God. In Romans 13:1 we read ” Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but God: the powers that be are ordained of God”. Therefore, no leader anywhere is operating without the knowledge of God.
