We are living in a society where the value of human life is greatly devalued.
The FBI’S Uniform Crime Reporting Program states that 16.1 murders are committed daily in the United States.
The data is collected from police departments and reported yearly.
Which speaks to a blatant disregard to people’s lives. There are 19 offenses given in the Old Testament where the death penalty applies, but long before we reach the law given by Moses, God told Noah in Genesis 9:6. “Whoso sheddeth man’s blood, by man shall his blood be shed; for in the image of God made he man.”
(Therefore capital punishment should be embraced today by the church because God gave this commandment long before the law came into being).
We read in Romans 13:1-5 where we are told that those in authority” bear not the sword in vein”.
2 Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation.
3 For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same:
4 For he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil.
5 Wherefore ye must needs be subject, not only for wrath, but also for conscience sake.
(So, 16.1 murders per day requires that the punishment necessary for taking another human life, should be the Death Penalty based on biblical principles.)
