Rest – To Cease from Action or Motion – To Remain Confident – To be Free from Anxiety or Disturbance – Peace – Ease – Refreshing – To Revive Mind – Soul – Body – To set Aside Time For Rest.
Gen 1: In the Beginning God Created the heaven – earth and all that therein is: Visible and Invisible: Then He created Man in His Image – Male and Female created He Them: V 26-28: And God blessed them, and said unto them, be fruitful, multiply, replenish the earth, subdue it and have dominion: V 31 And God saw everything that He had made, and behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day. All His creation was done in six days.
Gen 2-1-3: Thus, the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them. And on the seventh day, God ended his work which He had made, and He Rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had made. And God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it, because that in it He had Rested from all His work which God created and made.
Everything was perfect until Man sinned: Gen 3:17-19 Gives the penalty for disobedience: In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return onto the ground, for out of it wast thou taken, for dust thou art, and to dust shalt thou return. Now man has to work, work and never seem to Rest.
God instituted The Sabbath Day as a Day of Rest and Hallowed it: Ex 20:8-11: Remember the Sabbath to keep it Holy: Ex 31:12-17: Six days thou shalt labor: Observe the Sabbath throughout all generations: It is a sign between God and His children: Seventh day – Rest and be Refreshed.
Lev 23:3: Six days shall work be done; but the seventh day is the Sabbath of Rest: An Holy Convocation; you shall do no work therein: It is the Sabbath of the Lord in all your dwellings.
Nehemiah 9:1-28: Looks back on the children of Israel, how they provoked God with their inventions murmurings and unbelief, they were delivered into the hands of the enemy, who vexed them, but when they cried unto the LORD, He sent them saviors, delivered them many times, because of His Manifold Mercies, but after they had Rest; they did evil again and again and did not enter in His Rest Chap 13-15-21: Read how they profaned the Sabbath, and how he dealt with it: Also- Isaiah 58:13-14.
Heb 3:8-19: They grieved and tempted God in the wilderness for forty years: So God swore in His wrath they would not enter into His Rest: They could not enter because of unbelief: Heb 4-1-11: Let us therefore fear, lest a promise left us of entering His Rest, we come short: It did not profit them because it was not mixed with Faith: for if Jesus had given them Rest, He would not have spoken of another day: Therefore there remaineth a Rest to the people of God.
For he that is entered into His Rest has ceased from his own works: Let us labor to enter into that Rest, lest we fall through unbelief: Trust God, make every effort to obtain our inheritance in Christ: He completed everything for us, we do not have to work for our Salvation: It is by the Grace of God:
Matt 11:28: Come unto Me all you that labor and are heavy laden, I will give you Rest: Take my yoke upon you and learn of Me: For I AM meek and lowly in heart; and you shall find Rest unto your souls: For My yoke is easy and My burden is light:1 Peter 5-7: Casting all our cares on God, He cares for us Ps 131:1-3: My heart is not hearty. Nor mine eyes lofty. Neither do I exercise myself in great matters or in things too high for me. Surely, I have behaved and quieted myself as a child, that is weaned of his mother. My soul is even as a weaned child: I Rest in the arms of the LORD: He is my Peace.
