Why did the disciple make this request to Jesus? In asking him to teach them how to pray?
Was it because of Jesus’s posture?
Was it because of Jesus’s words?
Or was it because of the results of Jesus’s prayer?
In Luke 11: 1-4″and it came to pass, that, as he was praying in a certain place when he ceased one of his disciples said unto him, Lord teach us how to pray, as John also taught his disciples.
And he said unto them, “when he pray, say, Our father which art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, as in heaven, so in earth.
Give us day by day our daily bread.
And forgive us our sins; for we also forgive everyone that is indebted to us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil.”
We noticed it was just after Jesus was finished praying, that they asked him teach them to pray.
We believe that it is because they saw the results of Jesus’s prayer why the request was made.
The first thing to be noted in Jesus’s prayer is that he acknowledged his father. For our prayers to be effective we will have to ask the father in Jesus’ name because John 14:13-17 reminded us that whatever we ask the father in Jesus name it shall be done.
So let us be mindful of the example of Jesus’s prayer whenever we pray.
