What is a vapor?
A vapor can be considered a mist, or fumes.
This definition speaks to frailty, or temporary.
In James 4:14 we read “Whereas ye not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away”.
(Here James is making the point about the uncertainty of life, as we know it. In this passage he also said, we don’t know about tomorrow. Therefore, if life is viewed in this way, we have a compelling responsibility and that is to live in a state of readiness, to meet our God.
STUNG BY A BEE!
Recently it was in the news that a billionaire from India by the name of Sunjay Kapur was playing Polo with his friend Prince William in London, when he was stung by a bee and immediately collapsed and died. To think that a wealthy and healthy person such as Kapur, could have lost his life in this simple fashion is a confirmation to the writing of James 4:14. We don’t know the boundary that is next to our names.
Job 14:5. Tells us “Seeing his days are determined, the number of his months are with thee, thou hast appointed his bounds that he cannot pass “.
In respect to this quote from Job, we learn that there is a time set, in God’s eternal program that, regardless of our status in society death will claim its victim, so it behooves us to be ready at all times, for it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment.
