To be the center of attention can cause someone to lose focus.
As we examine the life of Jesus, we observe that he was steadfast in carrying out his mission. John 6:38-40 declares “For I came down from heaven, not to do my own will, but the will of him that sent me “.
And this is the Father’s will which had sent me, that of all which he hath given me I should lose nothing but should raise it up again at the last day.
And this is the will of him that sent me, that everyone that seeketh the son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day “.
(Jesus in this passage seeks to divert attention from himself, to focus on his mission and his Father for he said at one point “I do always those things that please him “
Let’s take a look on some of those moments where Jesus could be robbed by fame or celebrity status.
1. Luke 4:20-22 tells us that after reading the book that was given to him all eyes were fastened on him, what a moment!?
2. Luke 6:19 tells us that the entire multitude wanted to touch him that he might heal them, yet Jesus remained the same person.
3. John 6:14 -15 tells us that having seen Jesus at work they were determined to make him King but, Jesus humbly walked away.
4. John 11:43-45 tells us that Jesus cried with a loud voice and Lazarus who was dead for (4) four days came forth and stood before Jesus. Imagine, not even raising the dead could cause Jesus to lose focus.
According to Matthew 4:8-11 Jesus was offered all the kingdoms of the world and the Glory of them but, he rejected the offer and instructed the enemy (Satan)that he should worship the father. We are further told from the scripture that the enemy left him for a season. (What a victory)
Having observed Jesus, we are encouraged by Philippians 2:5. “Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus “.
What mind did Jesus have? He had a mind of humility which should serve as an example for all of us.
