It is hard to explain that there are three distinctive persons in the Godhead yet one being. This trend of thought occupies the minds of men from the time of creation. In Genesis 1:26 God said, “let us make man in our image, after our likeness:”
(Who was God speaking to and to how many others was he speaking?
To answer these questions there are two scriptures that comes to mind.
Matthew 28:18-19 said,
“And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, all power is given unto me in heaven and on earth.
Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:”
(Now we know who the father was speaking to, the Son and the Holy Ghost about the creation of man in Genesis. We also learn about the number of persons that were engaged in that discussion. In terms of number, it is made even clearer to us about the composition of the God Head, in 1st John 5:7 we read ” for there are three that bear record in heaven, the FATHER. the WORD and the HOLY GHOST: and these three are one.”
Jesus also spoke about this oneness in different sections of the gospel namely John 10:30 and
John 17:21 -22.
So, while we cannot explain the mystery of the Godhead, we embrace the teaching of the inspired word of God that there is one God, who is manifested in three persons).
