Why would anyone take offense to the word of God?
According to Jeremiah 6:10 “To whom shall I speak? and give warning, that they may hear? Behold, their ear is uncircumcised, and they cannot hearken: behold, the word of the Lord is unto them a reproach; they have no delight in it”.
(Clearly there are among us persons who are not circumcised at heart who are in strong opposition to the word of God. It is interesting, as we read the news to hear about the owner of a Christian Cafe in Blackpool Europe, where the police were called by a customer because the owner displayed scripture verses on a television screen in his own business place. This is one of the instances in which if a believer is not fully grounded in his or her conviction concerning who Jesus is, doubt can arise in the heart.
Let us see what Peter has to say about this rock of offense. 1 Peter 2:6-9 ” Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, behold, I lay in Zion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believeth on him shall not be confounded.
And to you therefore which believe he is precious: but, unto them which be disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner,
And a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offense, even to them which stumbled at the word, being disobedient: where unto also they were appointed.
But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should show forth the praise of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvelous light”.
(Again, we read from this passage, that the precious stone, which is Jesus and his words, is an offense to those who do not believe, but bless the Lord, those who believe are called chosen generation, and many other adjectives used in verse 9 to describe them that believe. It is my prayer that all who read this blog, will see Jesus as the precious stone.
