According to the National survey on Drugs, between the years 2024-2025 an estimated (64) Sixty-Four Million Americans used marijuana which was a rapid growth rate from previous years. The report went on to say that there are over (17) Seventeen Million users of marijuana in the United States every day. It is widely claimed that the usage is for recreational and medical purposes.
We also learned from another report that as of 2026 (24) Twenty-Four states have legalized recreational use and (40) Forty states permit medical uses.
From a Christian standpoint where is the danger in this? First of all, there’s a clear danger to our young people, secondly, we cannot deny that the abuse of this drug has caused serious health issues both in the past and present. It has been scientifically proven that it has healing properties. However, when it is used outside of that boundary there lies danger for our young people.
A word from the Bible is always handy in moments like these. In 1st Peter 5:8 we read “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walking about, seeking whom he may devour “: Here we are instructed to be vigilant, we are instructed to be on the lookout, we are instructed to be awake, we are instructed to be sober because there is an adversary who will use every and any method to control our minds. We are also told in Proverbs 4:23 “Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.”
Again, we are instructed that we should guard our hearts. Guard our hearts from desires that will affect our health, guard our hearts from influences that are negative. It is here that we remember what the Psalmist said “Thy word have I hid in my heart that I may not sin against thee”
Whether it is marijuana or any other drug that poses a threat to our health, let’s turn to the Bible and listen to Gods word.
