The relationship between God the Father and God the son, convey to us men a model of what father and son relationship should be.
Over thirty-four (34) times Jesus used the phrase my father in an expression to relate the closeness between his father and himself. We are also told In Matthew 3:17 where the father said, “And lo a voice from heaven, saying, this is my beloved son, in whom I am well pleased”.
(Think for a moment the depth of God’s pleasure in his son, and to show that it occupies the heart of God, God repeated the expression emphasizing his pleasure in his son. Can we as fathers express this depth of love for our children also? That’s why we are grateful for the father son relationship express by the Godhead as an example to us.
What can we learn from the scripture about this kind of relationship? Jesus speaking in John 8:29 “And he that sent me is with me: the father hath not left me alone: for I do always those things that please him “.
(This is a remarkable statement made by Jesus “I do always those things that please him”. In submission Jesus is returning the pleasure in his father, not only in theory but, also in a practical way. That’s why Jesus said in the garden of Gethsemane Luke 22:42, Father if thou willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless, not my will, but thine, be done”. Here we find that Jesus’s ultimate goal was to please his father.
Let us all on this Father’s Day emulate this Father son relationship in the Godhead.
