The Widows and The Fatherless
The widows and the fatherless are in the eyes of the Lord, to be a widow speaks of someone who has lost their husband. This can be significantly difficult when the death is not caused by old age.
To be fatherless speaks to lack of security and stability in the life of a child, which may result in children endangerment.
There’s a verse of scripture that brings encouragement to this situation, it is found in Psalm 68:5 “A father of the fatherless, and a judge of the widow is, God in his holy habitation”.
(This verse reveals to us the Character of God; to think that despite the demand of creation and beyond that does engage the attention of this great God, yet he is mindful about the well-being of the Fatherless and Widows.
The recent hurricane in Jamaica can be considered as a case in point. These two categories of people have suffered tremendous hardships but, they are not outside of the penetrating eyes of God in his holy habitation.
It is reported that the hurricane relief contribution to Jamaica is overwhelming from around the world. It is easy to lose sight of the interest that is being shown to Widows and the Fatherless through the mighty working power of God. He is the energy behind all these contributions. We are also told in Deuteronomy 10:18 “He doth execute the judgment of the Fatherless and Widow, and loveth the stranger, in giving him food and raiment. “
It is not only in the disaster zone that God is and mindful of the fatherless and widow but, even in this country a careful observation will reveal the different institutions that are established for this purpose.
God is indeed the father of the Fatherless and he watches over the Widow and the stranger for their provision, protection and comfort).
