Not only did John received the revelation that Jesus is the son of God but, the father himself identified Jesus as such.
There are two outstanding passages of scripture that speaks to God’s pleasure in identifying his son
1: Matthew 3:17 “And lo a voice from heaven, saying, this is my beloved son, in whom I am well pleased “.
We have seen divine expressions of pleasure in the introduction of his son. If God, the father is pleased with Jesus his son then so am I.
2: The other outstanding scripture is
Mark 9:7 “And there was a cloud that overshadowed them: and a voice came out of the cloud, saying, this is my beloved son: hear him” Once again God the father is identifying himself with his son and is instructing us to listen to him”.
(When we look on these two passages of scripture along with John 3:16 we can’t help but, see a God of love.
Not only that we are told in John 3:16 that everlasting life comes through Jesus but, we are also told in Isaiah 55:4, Behold I have given him for a witness to the people, a leader and a commander to the people “
The responsibility which is given to this son is spelt out in this verse of scripture.
1: He is given for a witness: to testify about the truth and character of God the father. He declared to Pilot that he is here to bear witness to the truth
2: He’s given as a leader: A leader of righteousness.
The Psalmist declares he leadeth me in the path of righteousness for his name’s sake, we also read In Hebrews 1: 8 & 9 “But unto the son he saith, thy throne, O God, is forever and ever, a scepter of righteousness is the scepter of thy kingdom. Thou hast loved righteousness, and hated iniquity: therefore God, even thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows” (This son is all together holy)
3: This brings us to the third and final point from this passage of scripture.
He is given as commander: We read in Joshua 5:14-15 “And he said, nay; but as captain of the host of the Lord I am come. And Joshua fell on his face to the earth, and did worship, and said unto him, what saith my Lord unto his servant? And the captain of the Lord’s host said unto Joshua, loose thy shoe from off thy foot; for the place whereon thou standest is holy. And Joshua did so “
Joshua acknowledged the commanding authority that is vested in the pre-incarnate son of God and he worship him. We too have good reason to worship him because he is a witness, a leader, a commander, and a savior.)
