The news of war is everywhere, not only war between Ukraine and Russia but, there are wars in many other parts of the world. Recently it’s been in the news that America and Iran are likely to enter into war, considering the military built up of American forces in the Middle East region the rest of the world is bracing for the inevitable.
Can we use the news related to these wars to inform us about anything from the scriptures?
In Matthew 24:3-7 Jesus is responding to a question “And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world?
And Jesus answered and said unto them, take heed that no man deceives you. For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many. And ye shall hear of wars and rumors of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.
For nation shall rise against nation and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famine, and pestilence, and earthquakes, in divers places”
(We are warned by the Lord of deception, he said clearly more than once, even with the different news of war we are to be careful that we are not deceived. This cluster of events however is a clear indication that we are approaching what the disciples call the end of the world in verse 3.
The reason the disciples ask for a sign before his coming is because they wanted to be ready for his return.
Can we use these signs and make ourselves ready for the second return of our Lord Jesus? It is imperative that we do so).
