What is worship- First – It is different from Thanksgiving and Praise. Thanksgiving is giving thanks for the many things God has done for us. When someone does something for you, it should be as natural as your breath to say thanks. We are to give thanks with a grateful heart. One example, when Jesus healed the ten lepers, only one came back to say thanks. God has healed us from the leprosy of sin so, shouldn’t we say thanks:
Praise. Ps150- tells us how to Praise God. For instance, when God’s people went to battle, they Praised God saying, He is Good and His Mercy endureth forever: Praise Him for His Mighty Works: Now I am going to tell you what the Holy Spirit revealed to me about Worship.
Worship is knowing God for Who He is – The Great I Am That I Am – God is spirit. And they that Worship Him, must Worship Him in spirit and in truth – God is Holy – if one really understands the Omnipotence – Omnipresence and Omniscience of God – All Powerful – All Seeing – All Knowing?
We should be in Awe – Wonder –and give Reverence – Worship Is a deep sense of veneration brought on by a Display of God’s Power – Ps 19: The Heavens declare the Glory of God, and the Firmament showeth His handy work – His Creative Power goes beyond our understanding: Deuteronomy 10:20: Thou shalt Fear The LORD Thy God – Him shalt thou serve – Thou shalt Worship The Lord Thy God, with all thy heart, mind soul and strength:
You can’t do this in your natural self: It has to be Supernatural having Him constantly on our minds: The reason I say Supernatural, remember before we were saved, God was not always on our mind: If he was, it’s only to ask for help or ask for something:
We don’t worship God only when things are going well. Examples: Gen 22:1- 5: When Abraham was told by God to offer up his only son as a sacrifice, even today, if God told you to do the same, maybe one would say, Lord, I can’t believe you are saying something like that to me? and remembering scriptures, you may say, Lord, you didn’t mean that? Didn’t you say that thou shalt not kill? Or one may say, this was not God’s voice and start rebuking the devil.
What did Abraham do: He told his servants he was going yonder to Worship God, and they would return: Total obedience: Not knowing the complete picture. He knew he was to slay his son, and yet he was not aware that God was testing his obedience. And this is a typology of God offering up His Only Son for our Redemption.
Gen 24:48-52: Eliezer, Abraham’s servant, Worshipped The God of Abraham, for answering his prayers, in finding a wife for Isaac, son of Abraham, and granting him his request, before he had done speaking, the prayer was answered: He bowed his head and Worshipped: This was done twice: A very interesting story that should be read: Worship God for His Loving Kindness:
Ex 3:1-6: This is the awesomeness of the God that we Worship. Now Moses kept the flock of Jethro, his father-in-law, the priest of Median, he led the flock to the backside of the desert and came to the mountain of God: The Angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a flame of fire, out of the midst of a bush, he looked, and behold, the bush burned with fire, and was not consumed. Moses said, I will now turn aside to see this great sight, why the bush is not burnt: The Lord saw that he turned aside to see, God said, take thy shoe from off thy feet, for the place you are standing is Holy Ground.
